Clinical A/Prof Adrian Yap is Head, Dentistry in JurongHealth Campus and a Senior Consultant Prosthodontist practising at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. He is Adjunct Professor at the School of Science & Technology in SIM University, Faculty of Dentistry in University of Malaya, and Faculty of Dentistry in Universitas Indonesia. In addition, he is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry in National University of Singapore and an Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry in University of Hong Kong.

Clinical A/Prof Yap graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1991, where he received several awards including the FAC Ohlers Gold Medal for Best Clinical Student and the Terrell Silver Medal for distinction in prosthodontics. He went on to pursue his postgraduate studies and graduated from the Institute of Dental Surgery, University of London with a Masters in Conservative Dentistry in 1993. Here, he was conferred the prestigious 3M Dental Postgraduate Prize for the Best Clinical and Academic Student. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy from the National University of Singapore in 2001. In 2004, he obtained his Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy from the Faculty of Medicine, The National University of Singapore. On top of his academic honours, Clinical A/Prof Yap has also received a number of research, teaching and service excellence awards in the course of his career.

In addition to restorative dentistry, Clinical A/Prof Yap specialises in temporomandibular disorders and dental sleep medicine. The former involves treatment of unexplained headaches, ear aches, facial and jaw pain/disabilities, while the latter includes dental management of bruxism (teeth grinding), snoring and sleep apnea. He has been invited to lecture and conduct courses in these areas both regionally and internationally.

Clinical A/Prof Yap’s research interests include bio-psychosocial factors in temporomandibular disorders and the development/characterisation of novel biomaterials. He has authored more than 190 refereed journal articles (H index of 37), 590 conference/seminar papers, several book chapters and patents. He is also a reviewer for numerous international journals and serves on the editorial boards of several international publications, including The Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, The Journal of Craniomandibular and Sleep PracticeOperative Dentistry and Current Nanoscience.
